About the Role

We are seeking experienced Medical Coding Authors with an active CCS, CIC, or CPC certification to develop high-quality medical coding content for next-generation AI training and evaluation.

In this role, you will create realistic coding scenarios, clinical documentation examples, assessment questions, detailed answer explanations, and evaluation rubrics. You will apply your expertise across inpatient, outpatient, and professional fee coding to help AI systems learn and interpret medical coding rules accurately.

This opportunity is ideal for certified coding professionals who combine hands-on coding experience with strong technical writing, guideline interpretation, and analytical skills.

No previous AI experience is required. Your medical coding expertise is what matters.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop realistic medical coding scenarios, clinical documentation excerpts, and coding questions across inpatient, outpatient, and professional fee settings.

  • Assign and validate ICD-10-CM, ICD-10-PCS, CPT, and HCPCS codes.

  • Create detailed answer keys and rationales explaining code selection, sequencing, modifiers, and Present on Admission (POA) indicators.

  • Support coding explanations with references to applicable official guidelines, coding conventions, and authoritative resources.

  • Develop evaluation rubrics and test cases across varying levels of difficulty, including complex and ambiguous documentation scenarios.

  • Review and revise existing coding content for accuracy, clarity, and compliance with current coding standards.

  • Apply relevant ICD-10-CM/PCS Official Guidelines, AHA Coding Clinic guidance, and CPT coding guidance.

  • Collaborate with project stakeholders to clarify requirements, resolve documentation ambiguities, and maintain data integrity.

  • Provide detailed feedback on coding guidelines, complex cases, and content quality to improve AI model performance.

Required Qualifications

  • Active professional coding certification, preferably:

    • CCS – Certified Coding Specialist (AHIMA)

    • CIC – Certified Inpatient Coder (AAPC)

    • CPC – Certified Professional Coder (AAPC)

  • Strong knowledge of ICD-10-CM, ICD-10-PCS, and CPT coding.

  • Hands-on medical coding experience in a hospital, physician practice, or coding audit environment.

  • Experience interpreting official coding guidelines and applying coding conventions accurately.

  • Ability to develop realistic coding scenarios and explain complex coding decisions clearly.

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.

  • Excellent attention to detail and commitment to coding accuracy.

  • Access to current ICD-10-CM, ICD-10-PCS, and CPT code sets and Official Coding Guidelines.

Preferred Experience

  • Medical coding content development or review.

  • Creating coding training materials, educational resources, or examination preparation content.

  • Conducting coding audits and documenting audit findings.

  • Coder education, professional training, or coding quality assurance.

  • Experience reviewing complex or ambiguous clinical documentation.
