LinkedIn Optimisation: Rank Higher in Recruiter Search

How LinkedIn Recruiter search ranking works and the profile changes that make recruiters find you first.

Quick answer

Optimise LinkedIn by putting your target role title in the headline, writing a proof-led About section, pinning the ten skills recruiters search for, and staying active fortnightly. Most profiles see measurably more recruiter appearances within two weeks.

How recruiters actually find you

Recruiters run boolean searches inside LinkedIn Recruiter, filtered by title, skills, location and seniority. Your headline, current title, skills section and About text carry the most weight. Completeness and recent activity act as tiebreakers.

The headline formula

Use: Target Role | Specialism | Proof | Availability. For example: 'ICU Nurse | Ventilator & ECMO | 7 yrs Level 1 Trauma | NMC pathway in progress'. This packs four searchable entities into one line while remaining human.

The About section in three paragraphs

Paragraph one: who you are and what you do, in the language of your target role. Paragraph two: three proof points with numbers. Paragraph three: what you are looking for and how to contact you. Keep it under 200 words — the fold hides everything else.

Weekly maintenance that compounds

Fifteen minutes a fortnight is enough to keep visibility rising.

  • Comment substantively on three posts from target employers.
  • Publish one short post about something you learned.
  • Send two personalised connection requests with context.
  • Update skills whenever you learn a new tool.
